ABSTRAK

 Masalah kelemahan dan hilangnya minat pelajar terhadap matematik amat membimbangkan semua pihak. Berbagai cara telah dirancang dan dilaksanakan. Beberapa punca telah pun dikenal pasti. Selain daripada sikap ibubapa dan pelajar itu sendiri, faktor guru juga memainkan peranan penting dalam menentukan kecemerlangan pelajar dalam sesuatu mata pelajaran. Strategi pengajaran berasaskan konsep serta penguasaan isi kandungan adalah keperluan penting seseorang guru matematik. Kajian ini adalah bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti tahap kefahaman konsep matematik bagi tajuk pecahan di kalangan guru-guru pelatih Kursus Perguruan Lepasan Ijazah (KPLI) di Maktab Perguruan Kuala Terengganu. Bilangan sampel adalah seramai 18 orang, daripada ambilan semester Januari 1997. Kajian ini berbentuk kuantitatif dan kualitatif di mana semua dapatan diperihalkan berdasarkan pengetahuan, kemahiran dan pengalaman pengkaji serta bahan rujukan yang disahkan. Setiap responden telah diberi satu ujian bertulis dan dinilai seterusnya melalui satu proses temubual. Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa tahap kefahaman responden berada pada tahap yang rendah. Para responden lebih menguasai kefahaman instrumental dan tidak mampu membuat penilaian dan berfikir secara logik. Beberapa cadangan telah dikemukakan bagi meningkatkan tahap kefahaman konsep di kalangan guru pelatih melalui program pendidikan matematik di maktab-maktab perguruan.

 

 


ABSTRACT

 The weakness and lack of enthusiasm problems prevailing among students make everyone worry. Several factors have been identified. Besides the indifferent attitudes of parents and students themselves, teachers play an important role in deciding student achievement as well. Teaching strategy based on concept and mastery of the contents is an essential necessity for mathematics teacher. This research is undertaken in order to identifying the level of understanding of mathematical concept of certain subtopics among Post Graduate Teachers Course ( KPLI ) trainee teachers at Teachers Training College , Kuala Terengganu. A sample size of 18 trainees is taken from 1997 January intake. It is both quantitative and qualitative in nature where all the results will be reported based on knowledge, skill and the researcherís experience as well as the reliable source of reference. Each respondent has been given a written test, evaluated and undergone through a series of interviews. The results of those processes indicate that they are at low level. Most of them only possess the instrumental understanding skill but does not have the ability to make meaningful evaluation and rational conjecture. Several proposition to enhance their ability has been put forward through Mathematics Education Programs at teaching colleges .
